Unit by unit
Lessons follow the student's course. This is the kind of material we work through.
Number sense
Place value, rounding, comparing numbers and mental math
Addition and subtraction
Regrouping, multi-digit work and choosing an efficient strategy
Multiplication and division
Fact fluency, arrays, long multiplication, long division and remainders
Fractions and decimals
Equivalent fractions, comparing, adding, subtracting and connecting to decimals
Measurement and geometry
Time, money, units, perimeter, area and shapes
Problem solving
Reading word problems, drawing a model and checking whether an answer makes sense
Where students get stuck
Math facts feel slow
We connect facts to patterns, so students rely less on memorizing alone.
Fractions don't make sense
We use pictures and real situations before moving to the rules.
Word problems cause panic
Students learn to read the situation and decide what the question is asking.

My child understands in class but freezes on tests. What helps?
Short, mixed practice helps students recognize a problem without being told the topic. We also practice getting started, because a first step often breaks the freeze.
Should my child still memorize multiplication tables?
Quick recall makes later work easier, but it works best after a student understands multiplication. We use patterns such as doubling and known facts, then build speed.
How long should a lesson be for a younger student?
Our standard lesson is 50 minutes, with activities changing often. During the consultation, tell us if your child needs a different pace so we can discuss the right fit.
What should I send before the first lesson?
A recent test, the current worksheet, and a note about what your child avoids or finds stressful give us the best starting point.
