Unit by unit
Lessons follow the student's course. This is the kind of material we work through.
Functions
Composition, inverses, transformations and piecewise functions
Polynomial and rational functions
Zeros, end behavior, asymptotes and sign analysis
Exponentials and logarithms
Models, log properties and equations with extraneous solutions
Trigonometry
Unit circle, graphs, inverse functions, identities and equations
Analytic trigonometry
Sum and difference formulas, double angles and applications
Sequences and series
Arithmetic, geometric and sigma notation
Vectors, polar and conics
Vector operations, polar coordinates and conic sections
Limits
Numerical and graphical limits as the bridge to calculus
Where students get stuck
The course moves too fast
We focus on the ideas that later units keep using.
Algebra gaps slow everything down
We repair what's blocking the current topic without restarting from zero.
Calculus is coming next
We prioritize the skills that matter most for derivatives and integrals.

What's the most important part of precalculus for calculus?
Functions, algebra, trigonometry and logarithms. Weakness in any of them makes calculus much harder, even when the calculus idea is clear.
Why do I get extraneous solutions with logs?
Log rules can create answers outside the domain of the original equation. Always check each solution in the original equation.
Do I need to memorize the unit circle?
You need quick access to common values, but memorizing isn't the only route. We use special triangles and symmetry so you can rebuild it.
Can tutoring prepare me for calculus over the summer?
Yes. We can diagnose weak areas and build a short plan before the course starts.
